The Community Disability Practitioner (CDP) is an experienced individual who provides direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will also participate in assessment, person-centered planning, and plan implementation. There may be some supervision/co-ordination of other staff. We hire enthusiastic people who are willing to:

  1. Develop healthy relationships and model positive interactions.

  2. Help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to complete daily tasks, while encouraging independence and positive choices. You may assist with personal care and medication administration.

  3. Encourage individuals with more complex issues to pursue healthy living, fitness, recreational activities and positive behaviors.

  4. Assist individuals to achieve their full potential in employment, social, community, and residential environments.

  5. Provide professional and timely communication to families, parents, staff, government and supervisors.

  6. Informally mentor other staff in your areas of strength.

 

Do you have?

  1. A positive attitude

  2. Ability to support persons with disabilities

  3. Diploma or formal education in the Community Disability Services field

  4. Experience working in and/or specialized training in related areas

  5. Strong organizational skills

  6. Valid driver’s license and vehicle (useful in many positions)

  7. For positions in Children & Youth Services:

    1. Do you know how to PLAY?

    2. Creativity

    3. Some experience or training in relation to children’s issues (e.g. FASD)

The wage level for a Community Disability Services Practitioner (CDP) ranges from $20.40 - $24.29 depending on education and experience.
