Sledge Hockey Day 2018
Join us on Saturday, March 24, 2018 for a full day of FREE, family-friendly activities at Millennium Place in Sherwood Park! Sledge Hockey Day centers around a round-robin sledge hockey tournament involving local businesses, community groups and Robin Hood's own sledge hockey teams. Come cheer on your favourite team and enjoy one of many FREE family-friendly activities including a sledge hockey free-skate on The Pond, face-painting, an instant photobooth, an NHL celebrity autograph session, massage sessions, glitter tattoos, mini-stick and scooterboard hockey, a Zamboni tour, kids' crafts, raffle and 50/50 and so much more! In addition, SONiC 102.9 will be broadcasting LIVE from Sledge Hockey Day from 1 - 4pm!
Teams register in the day-long tournament by way of sponsorship. Each team has the option of registering a complete team of 6, or a team of 5 - in which case they are paired with one of Robin Hood’s sledge hockey athletes to act as Team Captain on a total team of 6. Businesses and community groups play against each other and against Robin Hood’s sledge hockey teams. Games are 30 minutes long and played in round robin format without elimination.
Sledge Hockey Day’s main objective is to build community. It achieves this by promoting the development of natural, inclusive relationships between Robin Hood’s 30+ sledge hockey athletes, 120 participants on corporate- and community-based teams, over 110 event volunteers, and 500+ anticipated event attendees comprised of the Robin Hood community and the broader community of Sherwood Park, Edmonton and surrounding areas.
Sledge Hockey Day aims to promote inclusive sport and uphold individuals with disabilities as bona fide athletes and contributing members of their communities.
