TARGET THE HOOD 2017 - 2018
As many of you know, Robin Hood Association has experienced significant transitions over the past year with the retirement of Ed Riediger, our CEO of 43 years. His dedicated service and outstanding leadership propelled our organization forward and ensured continuous improvement in providing high quality and innovative services to people with developmental disabilities.
It has been a tremendous year for me personally, and I wish to express my deepest gratitude to our membership, staff, clientele and community for your support of my appointment to the position of CEO of the Robin Hood Association. I have 28 years of experience at Robin Hood, having begun my journey as an Employment Specialist, then as Day Program Manager, and most recently as Director of Adult Services. As CEO, I will remain passionate and deeply committed to supporting people with disabilities and their families first; to ensuring that Robin Hood is a contributing and valued community partner; to being an employer of choice; to leading the Disability Services Sector; to be effective and efficient with our resources; and to be accountable for service outcomes.
Robin Hood’s annual Target the Hood Campaign has become one of our most vital fundraising efforts. I’m so grateful for the commitment of Robin Hood’s families and friends who have continually stepped up to support our organization.
Fundraising has become increasingly critical to our Association meeting its basic operating requirements. For the past three years, our increased services to new intakes have not been met with any increases from Disabilities Services (PDD) to support Administration or Service Delivery funding. Our increases to Minimum Wage over the past two years have only been supported effective October 1, 2017. We’ve also encountered increases in utilities, facility maintenance, taxes, transportation services and food and household expenses.
Last year’s Target the Hood Campaign raised $55,764. Thank you! Please read ‘Highlights of the Past Year’ (click here to view) to learn more about the initiatives that your funds helped support.
This year, we are asking Target the Hood contributors to consider supporting one urgent need. Our Sherwood Park Learning Centre urgently requires a new Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning System. Despite our current HVAC system’s life expectancy of 12-15 years, our Facility Management team has kept it running for 20 years. However, the system is currently working at only 30% capacity, and requires maintenance on an almost daily basis in the summer months. Uncomfortable and unstable temperatures present health and behavior-related concerns for many of the individuals served at our Sherwood Park Day Program. As the estimated cost of this system is $150,000, we will be allocating all of this year’s Target the Hood Campaign funds to this priority.
